Server monitoring software that covers more than uptime

Salix Monitor 360 brings server monitoring, website and API checks, network monitoring, alerts, incidents, dashboards, agents, reports and security posture into one service. See external availability beside Windows, Linux and macOS host health, then keep the evidence needed to understand what happened.

Organisation structure

Main and sub organisations without billing complexity

Salix Monitor 360 can mirror the way your business is actually organised. Keep the subscription, billing and usage limits on the main organisation, then create sub organisations for separate teams, services, customers or operational areas when you need separate workspaces.

Main organisation

The account home for signup, billing, plan limits and the overall admin view.

Sub organisations

Separate workspaces with their own admins, users, monitors, agents, alerts and reports.

Rolled-up usage

Usage in every linked sub organisation counts towards the main organisation’s monitor, agent and user allowance.

Monitors

Define what “healthy” means for your services and Salix Monitor 360 watches them, 24/7.

Websites & APIs

Keep an eye on your public sites, customer portals and key API endpoints.

  • Check response codes, response times and expected content
  • API endpoint checks can confirm status codes, response text and JSON values
  • Page content checks prove that important words are present, or that error text is absent
  • Follow redirects in a safe, predictable way

Network basics

Confirm that the simple things are up: ping, ports, DNS and certificates.

  • Ping tests for “is it up?” answers
  • Port checks for key services
  • DNS lookups plus DNS record drift checks for A, AAAA, MX, TXT, NS and related records
  • Domain expiry / RDAP and NTP/time checks for overlooked operational basics

Agents for inside the network

Lightweight agents on Linux, Windows and macOS hosts send back focused health snapshots.

  • CPU, memory and disks
  • Services / daemons and event logs
  • Network and basic system health details

In practice: agents keep tabs on machines that are not exposed to the internet, such as internal servers, private services and the box everyone avoids until it starts shouting.

Databases & key dependencies

Don’t forget the building blocks under the product: databases and core services.

  • Database availability and simple latency checks
  • Monitors for sign-in, search or checkout flows
  • Third-party service status checks for suppliers, cloud platforms and external dependencies
  • Support for more advanced checks over time

Monitor types explained

Under the hood Salix Monitor 360 has a rich library of monitor types. Here is what they do, in everyday terms.

Internet & network reachability

Make sure people can actually reach your sites and services, not just that a server is turned on.

  • Ping - Simple “are you there?” checks that measure how long it takes for a server to respond.
  • TCP Port Open Check - Confirms that key ports (like 80 for web or 443 for HTTPS) are open and accepting connections.
  • UDP Port Open Check - Keeps an eye on connectionless services (like DNS) to see if they still respond as expected.
  • Traceroute - Maps the path traffic takes across the internet so you can see where slow-downs or breaks appear.
  • DNS - Checks that names like app.yourcompany.com still resolve to the right servers.

Websites, APIs & certificates

Protect the experience your customers see: fast pages, working APIs and safe, valid certificates.

  • Web content - Loads a page and checks that important words or phrases are really there, not a vague error page.
  • API endpoint - Calls a specific API URL and checks the response code, timing and basic content so you know business flows still work.
  • HTTP / HTTPS - Confirms that your sites respond over plain HTTP and secure HTTPS with the right status codes.
  • TLS / SSL certificate expiry date check / tls_ssl - Watches certificate expiry dates so you can renew in time and avoid scary browser warnings.

Email & messaging services

Keep the “boring but vital” email plumbing working so notifications and customer emails keep flowing.

  • IMAP - Confirms that mailboxes can be reached and read by users and applications.
  • SMTP - Checks that your outbound mail server can accept and send email.
  • POP3 - Makes sure older or simpler mail clients can still download messages.

Windows servers & desktops

A clear view into the health of your Windows machines without logging in to each one.

  • Windows CPU - Tracks how busy the processor is so you can spot runaway processes and bottlenecks.
  • Windows Memory - Watches RAM usage to catch leaks and systems that are constantly running “near the red line”.
  • Windows Disk - Monitors free space and growth trends so you can act before disks fill up.
  • Windows Processes - Checks that important processes are running and behaving as expected.
  • Windows Service - Verifies that named Windows services are installed, running and set to start correctly.
  • Windows Event Logs - Skims event logs for new warnings and errors, surfacing them as early hints of trouble.

Linux servers & services

Lightweight, agent-based insight into the Linux hosts that power most modern stacks.

  • Linux CPU - Shows overall processor load so you can see when a host is being pushed too hard.
  • Linux Load - Tracks system load averages to highlight sustained pressure over time, not just brief spikes.
  • Linux Memory - Keeps an eye on how much memory is used and free, so you can plan capacity and fix leaks.
  • Linux Disk - Watches disk usage for root and key mount points to prevent “out of space” outages.
  • Linux Services - Checks that important daemons and background services are up and running.

Bespoke Monitors

If you need a monitor that is not currently available in Salix Monitor 360, bespoke monitors can be scoped, designed, built and enabled for your users as paid development work.

  • Made for your workflow: tailored checks for your specific application, service, device or process.
  • Clear outputs: results and failure reasons shown in the same clear style as built-in monitors.
  • Delivered safely: agreed inputs, predictable execution, and sensible timeouts so checks behave well.
  • Commercial note: bespoke monitors are not included as a free standard feature. They involve development and consultancy time, quoted and agreed up front before any work begins.
  • Examples: SFTP file arrival checks, “does this job queue have a backlog?”, custom REST/GraphQL business checks, printer/UPS status via SNMP, licence server health, or bespoke database queries for key business signals.

macOS servers & Macs

macOS agents give you a practical view of Apple machines used as servers, build boxes, office Macs or specialist workstations.

  • macOS host health - Tracks CPU, memory and core machine health signals.
  • macOS disk mounts - Watches important volumes and mount points so storage problems do not creep up silently.
  • macOS services and daemons - Checks that important launch services and background processes are running.
  • macOS process signals - Confirms key applications or worker processes are present when they should be.
  • macOS log sources - Surfaces useful warning and error signals without treating the Mac like a Windows or Linux box.

Databases & data layer

The data tier is where many hidden problems start. Salix keeps a gentle watch on the usual suspects.

  • MySQL server monitor - Checks core MySQL availability and responsiveness so apps depending on it keep working smoothly.
  • PostgreSQL server monitor - Verifies that Postgres is up, reachable and responsive.
  • Microsoft SQL Server monitor - Keeps an eye on SQL Server availability for line-of-business apps.
  • Oracle server monitor - Tracks basic connectivity and responsiveness for Oracle-backed systems.

Alerts & incidents

Alerts you can trust, grouped into incidents with a clear story.

Rules with common sense

You decide what level matters and where messages go.

  • Separate Warning and Critical paths
  • Scopes for “all”, by tag or specific monitors
  • Cooldowns to prevent repeated nagging

Channels your teams already live in

Pipe alerts into Slack, Teams, Email or your own tools with simple webhooks.

  • Per-channel test buttons and clear logs
  • Dedicated channels for on-call and quieter notifications
  • Optional integrations with incident workflows

Status pages for customers and teams

Publish a simple service status page from selected monitors, without exposing the admin dashboard.

  • Public pages for information that can be shared openly
  • Private token pages for internal teams or selected customers
  • Organisation branding, selected monitor status and latest check detail

Incidents that tell the story

Salix groups related alerts into incidents so you can see cause and effect.

  • Timeline of what happened and when
  • Notes, runbook links and ticket references
  • Automatic close when things are truly stable

Alert channels, explained

When something needs attention, Salix sends it to the places your team already checks. Each channel is easy to set up and behaves predictably, so nobody has to guess where important messages will appear.

Email (templated)

Simple, reliable alert emails with clear subjects and a consistent layout, so you can see at a glance what went wrong.

  • What it’s for: Individuals, shared mailboxes, basic on-call groups and ticketing systems that ingest email.
  • How to set it up: In Salix, create an Email channel and add one or more recipient addresses (people, distribution lists or ticket queues). Your Salix instance uses the mail settings defined by your administrator, so there is no extra SMTP setup for each rule.

Slack (via Webhook URL)

Post alerts straight into a Slack channel, with links back into Salix for deeper investigation.

  • What it’s for: Engineering and support teams who live in Slack and want incidents to appear alongside their conversations.
  • How to get the webhook URL: In Slack, open Apps and search for Incoming Webhooks. Add it to your workspace, choose the channel you want alerts to appear in and let Slack create an incoming webhook. Slack will show you a long URL - copy it.
  • How to finish in Salix: Create a Slack channel in Salix, paste the webhook URL into the configuration box and send a test message from Salix to confirm everything is wired correctly.

Microsoft Teams (via Webhook URL)

Send alerts into a specific Teams channel, using Microsoft’s standard incoming webhook connector.

  • What it’s for: Operations, service and management teams who use Teams as their main collaboration tool.
  • How to get the webhook URL: In Teams, go to the channel where alerts should land, open the More options (⋯) menu next to the channel name, choose Connectors (or Apps), search for Incoming Webhook and add it. Give it a friendly name and icon, then let Teams generate a webhook URL and copy it.
  • How to finish in Salix: Create a Microsoft Teams channel in Salix and paste the webhook URL into the configuration. Use the built-in test button in Salix to make sure a card appears in the right Teams channel.

Discord (via Webhook URL)

Ideal for small teams or side projects that coordinate in Discord rather than email or traditional chat tools.

  • What it’s for: Internal hobby projects, labs or communities that prefer Discord servers.
  • How to get the webhook URL: In Discord, open your server settings, go to Integrations → Webhooks and create a new webhook. Choose the channel for alerts, optionally set an avatar, then copy the webhook URL Discord provides.
  • How to finish in Salix: Create a Discord channel in Salix and paste the webhook URL. Send a test alert from Salix; it should appear as a neatly formatted message in the chosen Discord channel.

Web Push (browser notifications)

Lightweight push notifications that appear on your desktop or mobile browser, even when the main Salix tab is not open.

  • What it’s for: People who sit in front of a screen all day and want a gentle nudge when something important changes.
  • How to enable it: Sign in to Salix in a modern browser and allow notifications when prompted, or enable Web Push from your user profile / preferences page. The browser registers itself with your Salix instance so it can receive alerts securely.
  • How it behaves: When a rule targets a Web Push channel, critical alerts arrive as native browser notifications, with the right title, summary and a link that jumps you straight into the incident in Salix.

Generic Webhook (custom integrations)

A catch-all channel for anything else - service desks, runbook tools or your own internal systems - using standard JSON over HTTP.

  • What it’s for: Sending alerts into tools that understand webhooks - for example, your organisation app, a bespoke on-call rota system or a third-party service that accepts JSON.
  • How to get the URL: In the system you want to integrate with, create an endpoint or “incoming webhook” that accepts HTTP POST requests. Most tools will give you a unique URL and, optionally, a secret or API key.
  • How to finish in Salix: Create a Generic Webhook channel in Salix, paste the URL and (if applicable) any shared secret or header value the other system expects. Salix will POST a structured JSON payload for each alert, including key details like monitor name, severity, incident status and deep links back into the app.

Dashboards & reports

Views for today’s problems and reports for tomorrow’s decisions.

Live dashboards

“My Dashboard” shows monitors, open incidents, agent health, recent alerts and more.

  • Drag-and-drop layout, with a simple reset
  • Charts for 30-day uptime, alerts and response times
  • Heatmaps for busy hours and noisy systems

Board-ready reports

Export uptime, SLOs, incidents and alert delivery in a format non-technical people can read.

  • PDFs for leadership and clients
  • CSV/JSON for deeper analysis by your team
  • Filter by team, environment or service tags

TV dashboard mode

Open the real administration dashboard on a TV or shared display. TV mode removes routine navigation, fits the dashboard to the screen and adds remote-friendly controls without creating a separate status page.

  • Full screen, fit, zoom and refresh controls
  • Auto refresh enabled by default for live operating status
  • Saved card order and visibility with Reset layout
  • The same organisation scope and existing access permissions

Different views for different roles

The same app feels slightly different depending on who you are. Salix tailors dashboards and reports so account owners, organisation admins and everyday users each see the right level of detail.

Account owners and main admins

Paid account owners can look across every linked organisation from the admin dashboard, ideal for providers, parent companies and internal teams running Salix for more than one area. Standard, Professional and Business Unlimited give a clear path from small setup to serious usage.

  • Account overview cards for uptime, incidents, agents and posture across linked organisations.
  • Create additional organisations and link them back to your main organisation.
  • Administration dashboards with TV mode for noisy customers, failing checks and capacity trends at account level.
  • Access to admin-only reports such as usage, security posture roll-ups and audit activity.

Organisation admins

Organisation admins get a focused view of their own organisation’s systems, without being distracted by other customers or business units.

  • Dashboards scoped to their organisation’s monitors, incidents, agents and alert channels.
  • Organisation-level reports for uptime, SLOs, vulnerabilities and posture, ready to drop into steering packs.
  • Quick access to who received alerts, which rules fired and how issues were resolved inside their organisation.

Everyday users

Individual users see a calm, personal view of the parts of the setup they actually work with.

  • “My Dashboard” focused on monitors, incidents and alerts they are allowed to see.
  • Simple, human-readable summaries instead of heavyweight admin metrics.
  • Reports and charts filtered down to the systems, teams or environments that matter to their day-to-day role.

Branded app experience

Organisation owners and admins can make Salix Monitor 360 feel closer to home with their own logo, colour scheme and footer text in the logged-in app.

  • Custom organisation logo for the app workspace.
  • Colour choices that match the organisation or client identity.
  • Footer text for support details, internal ownership or managed-service context.

Organisations for MSPs, providers and multi-organisation teams

Paid plans can add linked sub organisations for customers, departments or service areas. Each keeps its own users and operational data while the main organisation retains account-level oversight.

App owner cockpit

A calm account-level view across your linked organisations, with the ability to drill down when something needs attention.

  • Global overview across linked organisations
  • Create new organisations from the admin dashboard
  • Jump into an organisation to assist with onboarding or incidents
  • Useful for MSP delivery, governance and service assurance

Clean separation between customers

Organisations are isolated by design, so customers only see their own data.

  • Separate users, admins, monitors, alerts and reports per organisation
  • No accidental “cross-customer” access
  • Consistent structure that scales as you add clients

Teams inside each organisation

Each organisation can have its own teams, so responsibility is clear without mixing departments, clients or service areas together.

  • Create teams for products, departments, locations or clients
  • Keep monitors, alerts and reports tied to the right owners
  • Give admins a cleaner way to manage larger accounts

Plan limits are shared across the main organisation and its linked sub organisations. See pricing for the current allowances.

Network topology that makes sense at a glance

Instead of staring at lists of hosts, Salix draws a simple map of how your key services talk to each other. It keeps the picture up to date automatically.

See relationships, not just dots

The map shows web front ends, APIs, databases and third-party services as connected nodes, with status reflected by gentle colour changes rather than harsh alarms.

  • Spot obvious single points of failure more quickly
  • Understand “what talks to what” without trawling runbooks
  • Give non-technical stakeholders a picture they can follow

Updated quietly in the background

As you add or adjust monitors, the network map keeps itself in step. You do not need a separate tool or manual diagramming.

  • Placement is handled for you - no dragging boxes around
  • Colours and lines match the rest of the product
  • Perfect as a briefing slide or “single slide” service overview

Organisations, roles and clean boundaries

Salix Monitor 360 is built for real-world structures: individual teams, whole organisations and providers who look after many customers at once.

Clear organisation boundaries

Each organisation has its own users, monitors, alerts, agents, posture checks and reports.

  • Perfect for separating clients, departments or business units
  • Data and dashboards stay inside the right organisation
  • Simple organisation switcher for people who work across more than one

Organisation admins

Organisation admins get a calm control panel for everything they look after - no need to involve central IT every time.

  • Invite, deactivate and manage users in their organisation
  • Set up channels (Slack, Teams, Email, webhooks) and alert rules
  • Review organisation-level dashboards, reports and audit logs

Account owners and main admins

In a paid multi-organisation account, the main admin user can look after the whole account.

  • Create and manage linked organisations and their admins
  • Create teams within each organisation to keep ownership clear
  • See account totals, security and compliance views across linked organisations
  • Keep agents, posture checks and network maps healthy at scale
